Brazil BSCA Espresso 1 (500g pack) - Green Beans |
The Brazil Speciality Coffee Association is perhaps the only grower organisation in the world which certifies not only the members (under social, environmental and process criteria - see www.bsca.com.br/dloads/bsca_regulations_01_02_2005.pdf) but also the coffee itself. Only a handful - about 50 - of Brazil's finest farms are able to meet the exacting conditions of membership. With each new crop the BSCA creates a blend which is custom-made specifically for espresso - and which we're pleased to offer. |

Indian Monsoon Malabar AA: Bibi Plantation (425g pack) - Green Beans |
| Our "Monsooned" coffee is premium Arabica, stored in open warehouses to allow the moist monsoon air to circulate around the bags. The beans absorb moisture and swell and the colour changes to pale yellow/straw colour. They are then dried again.
This processing produces a unique flavour, weighty ,earthy and with low acidity, which is particularly popular in Norway and Sweden. Behind that is a warm complexity and you will find that it fits well into a home-made espresso blend as a balance to the Central/South American coffees although for some it is a favourite on its own. Good for Turkish coffee,
Our supplies come from grower Faiz Moosakutty in the heart of the coffee growing area of Karnataka state. Although not certified as organic, the estate is run in both an ecologically and socially responsible way. No herbicides are used and weed waste and coffee waste are both recycled as natural mulch under the canopy of silver oaks, jungle figs and rosewood trees. The farm provides free housing, electricity and medical care to the workers and interest free loans to help with education. |

Papua New Guinea - Sigri Estate grade A (480g pack) - Green Beans |
Sigri plantation is located in the Waghi Valley in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. The plantation was established in the 1950s and rapidly established a reputation for producing the finest Arabica coffee in the country. The varieties are primarily Typica and Arusha which have been shown to produce the best results under Papuan conditions.
The plantation is renowned for its exceptional attention to quality. The coffee is shade grown, not only from an agronomic point of view but also to encourage and shelter the unique native fauna. It is then hand picked only when ripe and pulped on the same day. This is followed by fermentation over the next three days and finished with a total immersion in water for a further day. Sun drying further enhances the coffee before it is meticulously sorted and graded.
When lightly roasted the aroma is very fragrant , with a hint of tobacco and honey: in the cup there are notes of sweet orange and a general balance of acidity and body. At this level of roast the sweet notes are just right for cafetiere. As second crack is reached the body increases and takes on an Asian earthiness makes a nice espresso. |

Sumatra Mandheling (500g pack) - Green Beans |
Spicy and full-bodied, this coffee typifies the nature of coffees from Asia and the Pacific. We can’t provide much information on the sourcing of this coffee because of the structure of the Indonesian coffee industry but our shipper is working to develop a closer relationship with the exporters and we are keen to help provide the market to support that development. |

Kenya AA Ruthagati (500g pack) - Green Beans |
The Rutuma Farmers Cooperative is a group of 1000 small scale farmers in the foothills of Mt. Kenya. In order to improve the quality, market access and sustainability of their coffee they have put the Ruthagati factory through UTZ responsible coffee production certification ( Click here for more info ) .
Wet processed and sun dried, this is a fine example of typical Kenyan citrus acidity and blackcurrant and fruity notes. It is a distinctive profile which, alone, probably works best in a cafetiere and which we really like in a blend with one of the sweeter Central Americans.

Decaff Brazil Fazenda Camocin, BSCA certified. (500g pack) - Green Beans |
Grown on a farm whose owner has the ambition of “ leading the Brazilian coffee industry towards more sustainable farming practices and a better way of life”. This philosophy and its implementation is explained more fully on their web site www.camocimorganic.com and it’s a pleasure to offer their decaffeinated coffee. It provides an excellent cup, aromatic, soft and sweet with lovely caramel notes.
The CO2 Decaffeination Process - Carbon dioxide is a highly selective solvent for caffeine. Based on this phenomenon the German decaffeination company, CR3, has developed what it calls a ‘natural liquid carbon dioxide coffee decaffeination process’. In this process, the natural carbon dioxide is used under ‘sub-critical conditions’, ie. In a liquid state at low temperature and pressure. These gentle process parameters, together with the good caffeine selectivity of CO2, gives a high retention rate of the coffee components responsible for aroma and taste. Absolutely no health risk involved since the coffee is placed in contact with only 100% safe substances – the chemically-inert (and completely evaporating) carbon dioxide, and pure water. |

Colombia Excelso La Zulia (500g pack) - Green Beans |

Rwanda Twisungane Bourbon (500g pack) - Green Beans |
This is an oddball. We bought it unsampled to replace the Nyamagabe and when it arrived we simply felt that it fell short of its predecessor and so put it aside. However, when we cupped it again recently we were pleasantly surprised. Not the most expressive Bourbon ever but a nice all-day cafetiere coffee, with hints of chocolate, fruity background and well balanced acidity. To complement this burst of honesty is an attractive price which makes it excellent value.
